Position Introduction:

The LLC is seeking a creative, platform-savvy student to serve as its Social Media & Outreach Strategist. This role owns the MLLL department’s digital presence — building awareness, growing engagement, and telling the department’s story across Instagram and other social platforms.

This is not a “post-and-forget” role. We’re looking for someone who thinks strategically about content, actively proposes new ideas, understands what resonates with a student audience, and treats the department’s social media as something worth building — not just maintaining. Day-to-day LLC support duties are a shared team responsibility alongside the primary strategy work.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Social Media Strategy & Content
    • Own and manage the MLLL and LLC Instagram presence, including feed posts, stories, reels, and highlights
    • Develop and maintain a semesterly content calendar aligned with key moments: placement season, cultural events, enrollment periods, and department milestones
    • Write engaging, on-brand captions, calls-to-action, and short scripts for video voiceovers
    • Propose and lead recurring content series — such as faculty spotlights, student language journeys, “Meet the Department” features, and language tips — without being prompted
    • Coordinate with the Videographer and Designer to brief, request, and schedule content assets needed for planned posts
    • Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, and content formats relevant to a university audience
  • Outreach & Promotion
    • Actively promote LLC and MLLL events, programs, and services across digital channels to increase student awareness and foot traffic
    • Build and maintain relationships with language club leaders to cross-promote events and expand organic reach
    • Identify and pursue collaboration opportunities with other OU departments, student organizations, and campus media
    • Draft promotional copy for email announcements, digital signage, and other departmental communications as needed
  • Analytics & Reporting
    • Monitor Instagram Insights and other analytics tools to track reach, engagement, follower growth, and content performance
    • Prepare a brief monthly report for the LLC Manager summarizing performance trends and recommendations
    • Use data to inform content decisions and refine strategy over time
  • LLC Daily Support — Shared Team Responsibility
    • Assist students with language placement tests and assessment procedures
    • Respond to placement-related emails and direct student inquiries to appropriate resources
    • Support faculty and staff with day-to-day administrative and technical requests
    • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and professional atmosphere in the LLC space
    • Work collaboratively with LLC staff and student team members on larger departmental projects
