Position Introduction:

The Office of Admissions & Recruitment (OAR) makes connections and creates experiences with the next generation of Sooners by supporting domestic and international freshman, transfer, and concurrent students throughout the application and decision process. Our team operates from Norman and across the state, nation, and world, partnering with faculty, staff, parents, counselors, and communities to provide guidance and resources to prospective students. Our goal is to build a vibrant OU community by recruiting the most academically qualified students with a variety of educational, service, involvement, and community experiences. Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for identifying, attracting, and enrolling prospective students through a variety of recruitment and outreach efforts.
  • This role serves as a key representative of the institution, building relationships with students, families, high school counselors, and community partners.
  • Guides students through the admissions process, reviews applications, conducts interviews, and collaborates with the admissions team to make informed admission decisions.
  • The role involves planning and participating in recruitment events, maintaining accurate records, and supporting college readiness initiatives within an assigned geographic region through targeted outreach, relationship building, and event participation.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment, providing personalized guidance and support throughout the admissions process.
  • Advises students on admissions requirements, assists with application completion, and schedules individual or group advising sessions as needed.
  • Maintains consistent and timely communication with prospective students via phone, email, text, and the institution's CRM system to ensure engagement and follow-up.
  • Represents the institution at college fairs, high school visits, guest lectures, community events, and on-campus programs to promote awareness and increase interest.
  • Plans, coordinates, and participates in on- and off-campus recruitment and yield events, including virtual and in-person information sessions and presentations for prospective students, families, and stakeholders.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with high school counselors, community partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Designs and produces recruitment materials and promotional publications in collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Collaborates with department chairs and faculty to coordinate recruitment fairs and academic advising sessions.
  • Evaluates a high volume of undergraduate applications using holistic review practices, applying institutional policies and procedures to assess academic credentials, essays, recommendation letters, and other supporting materials.
  • Interprets and clearly communicates admissions policies related to first-time freshman, transfer credit, prior learning assessment, and residency to a wide range of audiences, including students, parents, counselors, and university staff.
  • Collaborates with internal departments such as Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Student Services, and Admissions and Records to support a seamless transition for admitted students.
  • Acts as a liaison between the college and relevant internal units as well as local, regional, and national associations to ensure effective communication and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of recruitment strategies and supports marketing efforts through cross-functional project teams.
  • Plans and manages recruitment-related projects and events, including student outreach, event logistics, and public relations initiatives. Trains new admissions staff on application review processes, serving as the primary contact and mentor until trainees reach full proficiency.
  • Stays current on institutional admissions policies, academic offerings, and campus resources.
  • Effectively uses the CRM system to manage prospective student data and interactions and to support strategic decision-making.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
