Pay Range: Targeted salary $66,000 - $72,000 annually, based on experience

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Work Schedule: This position is scheduled to work on-campus Monday through Friday, but some remote work may be possible.

Position Introduction:

The Research Librarian provides reference, research and instructional services to the law school’s faculty, students, and other patrons.

  • Provide reference support to law students, faculty, the OU University Community, and the public through in-person, email, phone, chat, or other means
  • Partner with faculty in providing in-depth support for research projects and serve as a liaison to faculty
  • Participate in collection development by developing subject matter expertise in one or more areas of law or legal research in support of faculty
  • Monitor legal developments, research publications, and news to provide current awareness services to faculty
  • Teach one to two sections of the required first year legal research course and provide guest lectures on legal research in other law school courses
  • Teach advanced legal research courses as needed
  • Create research guides and other resources in support of research and teaching activities
  • Serve on law library and law school committees
  • As an OU campus partner, participate in University Libraries committees and events and provide research services to the broader OU community
  • Participate in conferences related to law librarianship, legal research instruction and information technology.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated aptitude in the use of print and online research sources including Westlaw, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, and other online legal resources.
  • Experience using technology to aid in research, instruction, or client support in an academic or a legal environment.
  • Exhibits curiosity, tenacity and creative problem solving.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Ability to complete work under frequent interruptions.
  • Strong user-service orientation.
  • Demonstrated to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills tailored to wide range of clients and situations.
  • Proficiency in Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint and possesses experience in using software, apps, or Internet services to develop, acquire, or deliver content.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in any subject area.
  • 2 months of related academic experience.

Department Preferences:

  • Master's degree in Library & Information studies or equivalent degree OR at least two years relevant library experience.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or other instruction.
  • Law library experience.
