Position Introduction:

The Student Assistant supports the recurring communications the College of Law produces each year, including admissions correspondence, alumni features, website content, and data gathering for reputational outreach. This is a writing and research position reporting to the Director of Alumni and External Relations. It is suited to a student building a portfolio of published institutional and feature work.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing and reporting:
    • Interview alumni, faculty, and students and draft profiles, features, and news items for the College of Law website and alumni newsletter
    • Draft and revise admissions correspondence, including recruitment email sequences
    • Draft blog posts on admissions, employment outcomes, and student programs
    • Draft social media copy for College accounts
  • Digital content:
    • Post and update content on law.ou.edu using the University's content management system
    • Audit existing pages for accuracy, broken links, and outdated program information
    • Assist with photo selection, captioning, and basic image preparation
  • Research and data:
    • Compile and format contact and institutional data supporting peer reputation outreach, working from targets identified by the Director
    • Maintain source lists and track outreach records
    • Update alumni records in the College's database

What the position offers:

Published bylines on institutional and feature content, direct interview experience with practicing attorneys and judges, and working familiarity with content management and communications workflow in a professional setting

Required Education and Experience:

Must be currently enrolled in the Fall Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.

Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate at the University of Oklahoma, sophomore standing or above preferred
  • Coursework or demonstrated experience in journalism, writing, public relations, or a related field
  • Clear, accurate writing on deadline; ability to conduct and transcribe interviews
  • Comfort learning a content management system and standard office software
  • Writing samples required with application
