Position Introduction:
The Student Support Specialist is responsible for comprehensive inventory management, handling deliveries, scanning equipment into tracking systems, and organizing replacement cycles for faculty and staff. This position manages detailed asset assignment records in Excel, coordinates with administrative departments for new hire equipment location, and arranges delivery of technology assets across campus. The Specialist maintains thorough documentation of all deliveries, including location information and photographic confirmation. This role maintains equipment readiness by rebuilding and refurbishing computers, focusing on preparing backup units and loaners for departmental needs and events. The Specialist provides some first-level technical support to faculty and staff, troubleshooting hardware and software issues while escalating complex problems to senior technicians when necessary. Additional responsibilities include providing basic technical support for printers, software, and computer configurations within account permission levels, as well as assisting with lab updates and network connectivity audits. A core function of this position is surplus management, requiring documentation of serial numbers and unique identifiers before processing equipment for retirement. The Specialist evaluates assets for potential reuse, recommending serviceable equipment for introduction while ensuring damaged items are properly processed for parts salvaging or disposal. This work involves managing surplus operations of various scales, from routine small collections to large departmental projects exceeding 250 items, maintaining accurate inventory records throughout the process.
